We were carrying out some antique restoration work for our client in Gladesville when she asked whether this poor old chair sitting outside was worth restoring, whether it could blend in with the beautiful antique furniture inside her home, or whether it should just be put out for council pickup. I said, "Hold my beer." 😆

Get in touch if you have a furniture project like this that needs to be saved from landfill. Everything has the potential to look amazing once restored. Message me or see the link in our bio to get a quote.

LIKE this post if you think antiques look better restored rather than painted.

I'm reposting this Australian 1930s kitchen dresser that we restored a while back to demonstrate the mistake many people make by painting antiques. Painted furniture certainly has its place, but painting genuine antiques like this dresser hides the original beauty that the maker intended.

Luckily, our client ignored all the people telling her to simply repaint it and was curious to see what it looked like when her great-grandparents used it during the 1930s. That curiosity was rewarded with an amazing restoration result, showcasing a beautiful combination of Tasmanian oak and Queensland walnut veneer.

Fully restored and traditionally French polished by Aubert Furniture. If you have antique furniture that you would like professionally restored to its former glory, get in touch for a quote.

SOLD - A rare opportunity to own a truly one-of-a-kind handcrafted round dining table.

Eighteen years ago I designed and custom-made this table especially for Jacinda from Paddington. She recently contacted me to say she's downsizing and would love to see it go to someone who will appreciate it as much as she has. I suggested that one of my 11K followers might be interested in a table of this quality.

Handcrafted from "solid" American oak with walnut inlay, the tabletop features a striking radiating geometric parquet design. The base is equally distinctive, with three turned cannon-barrel legs joined by a shaped triangular platform base and raised on squashed bun feet. Every detail was made by hand, and I French polished the table using traditional methods. After 18 years, it remains in beautiful condition. When I first made this table it was featured in Inside-Out Magazine.

A custom-made table of this quality would cost well over $10,000 to build today. Jacinda is asking just $2,000 for the table. If you're interested in the dining chairs as well, she may be willing to do a good price for the lot.

I wanted to offer it to my followers first before it is advertised elsewhere. At this price, I don't expect it to be available for long, so if you're interested, send me a message. I can put you touch with Jacinda and I can assist with transport if required. Pick up Paddington.

The table comfortably seats 6 people and can accommodate up to 8.

Dimensions:

Table diameter: 1800 mm
Table height: 770 mm
Chair back height: 1000 mm
Chair back width: 430 mm
Chair seat height: 480 mm

If you're interested or have any questions, send me a message.

How awesome is this Australian Beard Watson lounge suite c1923 that we just restored for Sue from Croydon. Fully restored and reupholstered but converted from a fabric lounge suite to premium quality leather. This was a very special project for Sue as it had been in her family for over 100 years so it needed a special leather worthy of the restoration. Sue went with Thomas Maxwell Langham colour chestnut which in our opinion is the best quality full aniline leather available in Australia. If you need your own antique or vintage lounge suite restored to its former glory, get in touch. #beardwatson #aubertfurniture #antiquesofarestoration ... See MoreSee Less

We just completed full restoration of eight original vintage Danish Kai Kristiansen #42 chairs for Jonathan from Mona Vale. These chairs were in very poor condition when we received them, with broken armrest joints, cracked ply backs, and loose or split frame joints, all in need of serious TLC. They have now been restored to their former glory, hand-polished in Danish oil, and reupholstered in Spartacus Dijon fabric from Zepel. A big resto job but an awesome result. #kaikristiansen #midcenturymodern #danishchairs #vintagefurniturerestoration #aubertfurniture #zepelfabrics ... See MoreSee Less

We’ve just completed full restoration of this stunning mid-century Ercol suite for Angela from Palm Beach. The old, damaged dark brown finish was completely transformed into a fresh natural timber tone, highlighting the beautiful blonde tones of the European beech frames and the figured elm grain of the coffee table. French polished by hand using clear shellac. We carried out structural repairs to the loose spindles and traditionally rewebbed the seats with new Pirelli webbing, incorporating stitched dowel peg ends—true to the original design. The suite was then fully reupholstered in new fabric. Angela selected Coverlet Boudoir for the seats and backs, and Coverlet Hunter for the scatter cushions. #ercol #ercolwindsor #midcenturymodern #zepelfabrics #sydneyinteriors #vintagefurniturerestoration ... We just finished restoration of this cool little 60s English Elm Ercol sideboard for Caroline from Beecroft (Please excuse the workshop background). Love the quality of this sideboard which incorporates things like dovetail joinery on the sides. The top was very marked and needed full restoration, colour-matching and Danish oil. The rest of the piece just needed a clean up and a handle repair. #ercol #midcenturymodern #vintagerestoration #aubertfurniture #furniturerestorationsydney ... See MoreSee Less

We just completed full restoration, repair and traditional French polishing to this fantastic Victorian walnut tilt-top Loo table for Elwyn from Strathfield. The table also required repair work to loose veneer and marquetry and we sourced special brass pivot thumb screws which were missing. Elwyn was thrilled with the restoration job and he was also excited to see it in working order with the top tilted for the first time since acquiring the table many years ago. ... See MoreSee Less
