Australian 1930s Kitchen Dresser

We restored this beautiful Art Deco kitchen dresser for a customer. The piece had belonged to her great-grandfather and had been painted during the 1950s, concealing the original timber beneath. Over the years, several people suggested it should simply be repainted in a shabby chic style. Instead, she wanted to discover how it would have looked in her great-grandfather's day.

As the layers of paint were carefully removed, the beauty of the original timber was gradually revealed. When she saw the completed restoration, she was absolutely amazed. She couldn't believe how beautiful the dresser looked and simply couldn't understand why it had ever been painted in the first place. Seeing a treasured family heirloom returned to its original appearance made the restoration all the more rewarding.
